Due to the success of l’Etape du Tour, the organizers of the Tour de France (ASO) have introduced a new cyclosportive: L’Etape de Legende, an opportunity for cyclists to ride and rediscover the very same routes as the champions on select historic stages of Tours past.

The year 2007 marks the very first edition of this race, which commences with Stage 8 from the 1967 Tour de France: Strasbourg – Ballon d'Alsace. The route begins in the historic, picturesque, and lively town of Strasbourg in the Alsace region of France , traverses the Vosges Massif, and finishes with a climb to the summit of the Ballon d’Alsace (1,247 m or 3,740 ft.), from which you have magnificent views of the Rhine Valley , the Vosges Mountains , and the Black Forest . The Ballon d’Alsace also marks the site of the first official mountain climb in the Tour and first appeared in July 1905. It is an excellent way to experience the unforgettable thrill of riding in a real stage of the Tour de France. L’Etape de Legende route is less rigorous than the Etape du Tour, providing the opportune moment for those wishing to experience their very first cyclosportive.
