Biking from Saint Remy de Provence to Les Baux de Provence will take you through Val d'Enfer
This short biking trip will take you through Maussane.

Celebrated by poets and writers such as Frédéric Mistral and Alphonse Daudet, painted by Vincent Van Gogh, Auguste Chabaud, and many others, the Alpilles range is fascinating.

Within a small area, the scenery can change dramatically: bare ridges, fragrant valleys, and colorful fields make way to wooden areas and perched villages.

Our route will take you on very quiet roads around the Alpilles. You'll bike through some of France's prettiest villages: Saint Rémy de Provence, Les Baux de Provence, Fontvieille, Eygalières, Maussane les Alpilles, Tarascon, and Arles.

Itinerary:

Day 1: Avignon - Saint-Rémy-de-Provence (25 km or 15 miles)
Our local representative will give you all the necessary materials and brief you on the essentials of the trip.Your short ride will lead you to Saint-Remy-de-Provence, where you will overnight.

NOTE: Our local representative can provide you with your kit and rental bikes any day of the week except Sunday. If you arrive on Saturday and spend a night in Avignon, bikes and documents will be given to you on Saturday evening.

Day 2:  Saint-Rémy-de-Provence - Arles (46 km or 29 miles; 56 km or 35 miles with the extension through les Baux-de-Provence )

On easy trails or small roads, you'll be biking at the foot of the mountain range, through fields of olive trees and vineyards--if you choose, you can stop for a wine tasting--the scenery is breathtaking. Overnight in Arles, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Day 3: Arles - Graveson (45 km or 31 miles)

Sites will abound along this scenic route. You'll bike through Fontvieille where Alphonse Daudet's Windmill is located, Tarascon and its castle--one of France's best-kept medieval fortress--and home to Souleiado, the Provencal fabric maker (it is possible to visit). Overnight in Graveson.

Day 4:  Graveson - Avignon (23 km or 14 miles)

Your ride back to Avignon will take you through "La Montagnette" ("the small mountain" in French) offering superb views over the area. The magnificent--and yet overlooked by many--Frigolet Abbey and Barbentane castle are some of the highlights that can be visited before reaching Avignon.
