Cycling Trip starts from La Petite France, Strasbourg's historic quarter

Alsace has more than 4,000 km of bikeways.
Very proud of its unique cultural identity and legacy, as well as a key geographical location throughout history, the Alsace offers an amazingly rich variety of sites and landscapes. Travelling on bikeways or small and quiet roads, this short tour will allow you to catch a glimpse of the area’s rich heritage, experience part of the rural countryside, wander through the “Upper Vosges Natural Park”, and ride through famous and not-so-famous villages that all so well illustrate the multi-faceted Alsatian character.

This tour starts any day, except Sunday, March through October.

Itinerary
Day 1: Arrive in Strasbourg

Arrive in Strasbourg at the time of your choice. Your hotel is located in Strasbourg’s heart -- Petite France -- and is ideally situated for strolls through the narrow cobbled streets and along the waterways of this historic island quartier. Strasbourg is a friendly and multi-lingual city, home to the European Parliament and a magnificent rose-coloured cathedral, just two of the sites that should not be missed.
Day 2: Strasbourg – Obernai - 37 Km (22 miles)

Leaving Strasbourg and heading toward Obernai--Alsace’s second most visited city—we invite you to visit Rosheim, a remarkable village with a history dating back to medieval times, as the Saint-Pierre-et-Saint-Paul church in the center of town clearly demonstrates. Half-way through your ride, you will cycle through the historic town of Molsheim, which makes a perfect lunch stop.  An early arrival in Obernai will allow you to explore some of its treasures, such as the belfry (Kapellturm), the medieval town walls and ancient houses, and the old town square.
Day 3: Obernai – Saverne - 45 Km (28 miles)

Venturing away from Obernai and halfway along the route to today’s destination of Saverne, you will cycle through Marlenheim, a wine-making village worth a stop and an ideal lunch spot. Saverne is the capital town of the “Alsace Bossue,” which literally translates into “Hunchbacked Alsace” and refers to the hilly part of the Alsace between Saverne and Sarre-Union. Saverne boasts an impressive canal-side chateau and right before the pedestrian centre there is a lock which allows for viewing of the barges and boats as they pass through.
Day 4: Saverne – Ingwiller ~ 48 Km or 26 km (30 miles or 16 miles)

Today you have two options for reaching Ingwiller, one longer and one shorter, both of which take you through Vosges Natural Park and its traditional villages, as well as the abbey of Neuwiller-les-Saverne, dating back to the 12th century. The longer option will take you deeper into the Park and by some notable sites such as the remarkable “Chateau des Comtes de Hanau” in Lichtenberg, whereas the shorter version skirts the outer sections of the Park.
Day 5: Ingwiller – Strasbourg - 67 Km (41 miles)

Riding through quaint villages in the “Hanau region”, you will reach the Marne – Rhine canal and then follow the bike path all the way to Strasbourg—traffic-free. Although this is the end of your trip, please note that we can arrange additional nights in Strasbourg to prolong your pleasure make the most of this charming and character-full city and region.
