Looking for variety? Our tour from Avignon to the Camargue is for you! Start off by wandering the charming streets and historic sites of Avignon, then meander on quiet roads to the Gard area, where you can marvel at the ever-present Roman heritage. After that you pass through the Camargue National Park, where egrets, flamingos, bulls and wild horses are not just images on postcard, and finally explore the Alpilles, where artists like Van Gogh found beauty and inspiration.

 
It is difficult to imagine a wider range of sites and places of interest! Yet, this is not simply a trip of touristy places, but rather an opportunity to experience real and living places, and the people coexisting with their rich history of cultural heritage.

 
Itinerary:
 
Day 1 : Arrival in Avignon
Arrive in Avignon at the time of your choice. Check-in at your hotel. Visit Avignon at your leisure. Meet with our local correspondent to go over itinerary and receive materials and rental equipment.
 
Day 2 : Avignon - Graveson (66 km or 42 miles)
Leaving Avignon behind, you will bike on small roads through the Gard, a wine-producing area. Provencal villages will provide good stops along the road to Pont du Gard, a well-preserved aqueduct listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. Before reaching your hotel, you may want to stop in Barbentane, a village that boasts two castles of interest.
 

Day 3: Graveson - Arles (51 km or 32 miles)
Crossing the town of Tarascon, you will discover one of France's most beautiful medieval castles. A few steps from the castle is where the Provence fabric maker, Souleiado, has its museum. On your way to Arles, you may visit "Daudet's Windmill," and the "Montmajour Abbey." Finally, you will reach the city of Arles, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This is where your hotel is located.

 
Day 4: Arles - Les Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer (59 km or 37 mile)
Departing Arles, you enter the Camargue Natural Park with its swamps, lagoons, and rice fields inhabited by flamingos, bulls, and wild horses. Crossing the Rhone River by boat, you will arrive in Les Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer where you will spend the next two nights.
 
Day 5: Rest day
Feel free to relax by the pool of your hotel unless you opt for one of the many activities offered in this area: horseback riding, canoeing, 4-wheel driving, hiking, etc... all this is possible and much more!
 
Day 6: Les Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer - Alpilles area (68 km or 42 miles)
Cycling on the bike-only road "Digue a la Mer," you'll reach the Alpilles--a low-rise mountain range and a source of inspiration for Van Gogh--and discover a dramatically different landscape! You'll overnight at the foot of the Alpilles.
 
Day 7: Alpilles area - Avignon (48 km or 30 miles)
You will bike across the Alpilles and discover two of its jewels: Les Baux-de-Provence and its towering fortress that offers unobstructed views over the Alpilles, and Saint-Remy-de- Provence, where Van Gogh painted some of his best-known works. You will then head back to Avignon where you will overnight.
 
Day 8: Departure from Avignon
Depart Avignon at the time of your choice.

Price: From 730 euros per person based on double occupancy.

Two Options are offered for this trip:

Option A: 6 nights in 2-star properties, 1 night in a 3-star property. All have a swimming pool except in Avignon and Arles.

  • 730 euros March thru April 30 and October 1 thru November 5. Single supplement is 270 euros
  • 760 euros May 1 thru June 30 and September 1 thru September 30. Single supplement is 285 euros
  • 795 euros July 1 thru August 31. Single supplement is 295 euros.

Option A+: 2 nights in a 4-star hotel in Avignon, 5 nights in 3-star properies. All have a swimming pool except in Arles.

  • 870 euros March thru April 30 and October 1 thru November 5. Single supplement is 370 euros
  • 960 euros May 1 thru June 30 and September 1 thru September 30. Single supplement is 435 euros
  • 1,030 euros July 1 thru August 31. Single supplement is 495 euros.
