| Itinerary | ||||||
| Day 1: Arrival in Bordeaux Arrive in Bordeaux at the time of your choice. Your hotel is a 3-star property “of character,” a few steps from the train station making it a top choice if you wish to hop on a train and discover the Medoc region (we can provide you with suggested routes). If you wish to experience the local gastronomy, you’ll find some remarkable restaurants a short walk away from your hotel. |
| Day 2: Bordeaux – Saint-Brice (approximately 25 km or 15 miles) In the morning, we’ll pick you up and transfer you to Créon in the heart of the wine-making area of the Entre-Deux-Mers. This is where you’ll receive your bike and all necessary materials. You’ll hop on your bike and cycle to your place of stay in the tiny village of Saint-Brice (population: 280). Most of the ride takes place on the traffic-free bikeway “Piste Lapebie.” Meanwhile, your luggage will be delivered to your guesthouse. Dinner will take place at your guesthouse |
| Day 3: Saint-Brice – Courpiac (approximately 52.5 km or 33 miles) From tiny St. Brice, you’ll ride to the tinier village of Courpaic (102 inhabitants!), this is a ride that will take you on very quiet roads through the vineyards of the “Entre-deux-Mers.” Lightly inhabited, with very little traffic, this area is ideal for cycling. The downside of this zen-like environment is that you won’t find many places to refill for water or buy food. We highly recommend you ask your host to prepare a picnic basket which you can enjoy roadside halfway through your ride. Be assured it will not be difficult to find a quiet picnic spot. The small village of Courpiac (102 inhabitants!) will be your home of the night. |
| Day 4: Loop from Courpiac through Saint-Emilion (50.2 km or 32 miles) This loop will take you up north across the Dordogne river to the world-renown hilltop village of Saint-Emilion. There you can lunch outside enjoying the sites and stores of its wonderful historic center. The way back will be done following tiny roads through rural countryside amidst grazing cows… None of our other trips will transport you this far from civilization and all its “benefits:” noise, pollution, and traffic. A dinner of authentic fare will conclude this memorable day. |
| Day 5: Ride to Créon – Transfer to Bordeaux (18 km or 11 miles) After breakfast, depart Courpiac at the time of your choice. Your short ride to Créon will take place on the traffic-free bikeway through the medieval abbey of La Sauve Majeure, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. From Créon, we will transfer you back to Bordeaux. |
