Description

Located just two hours away from Paris by train, Beaune, the wine capital of Burgundy, is ideal for a short escape from the hustle and bustle of big cities, crowded touristy places, and stuffy business atmospheres.

PommardMeursaultVolnay, and Gevrey — they’re celebrated names among oenophiles, and they’ll become celebrated memories in the form of welcome stops on your itinerary! Although vineyard stops are many and there are plenty of bottles to be enjoyed, we still advise you to always carry (and indulge in) a bottle of Mother Nature’s finest — water, that is. Although this is a 4-day “getaway,” it’s still a cycling vacation, and we want you to revel in the freedom of the open, quiet roads as much as you relish the regional beverages and cuisine.

Itinerary

D1Arrival in Beaune and optional ride Optional ride: 36 km (22 mi) 430 m, 1,410 ft

After checking in at your hotel in Beaune, you may take a stroll through the magnificent town for some sightseeing — the multi-colored tiles on the Hospices de Beaune are nothing short of spectacular. If you have the time and inclination, you may ride one of our suggested loops. Quaint roads, superb scenery, and breathtaking views will be absorbed, photographed and admired! You have the option of taking a loop ride of 36 km (22 mi) around West Beaune too.

D2Beaune — Beaune 47 km/29 miles, 350 meters/1,150 ft of climbing

Our long loop will take you to the Côte de Beaune area, where villages with wine-label names are yours to discover, including VolnayMeursault and Montrachet. In Santenay, savor a wine tasting among the vines — in moderation — before continuing on serene roads back to Beaune.

D3Beaune — Dijon 77 km/48 miles, 730 meters/2,395 ft of climbing

A multitude of flavors awaits you today! From Beaune, ride through the Alex Corton vineyards to the Côte de Nuits, home of renowned red wines, where you are invited to a wine tasting. The "Grands Crus" wine road will take you to Gevrey Chambertin for another tasting and a visit of the domain. Another great visit is Clos Vougeot, a renaissance castle and home to the Confrerie des Chevaliers du Tastevin (Burgundy Wine Brotherhood) and the Romanée-Conti vineyard. Also on today's itinerary is the Cassissium in Nuits St. Georges, a unique museum devoted to delectable cassis (black currant). Save some time to visit your destination, Dijon, the capital of Burgundy.

A shorter ride of 44 km is also available.

D4Departure

After breakfast, depart Dijon at the time of your choice. A late departure will allow for extra time to explore Dijon — it’ll seem like the world’s largest open-air museum devoted to medieval art and architecture.
Don’t forget to grab a jar of mustard or even visit a local mustard factory!
