Itinerary:

Day 1: Arrival in Toulouse
Upon arriving by either train or air, Philippe, our local representative will transfer you to your prearranged accommodations in the small village of Saint-Girons. Here, Philippe will help you with your bikes, meticulously go over every itinerary details, and answer all your questions. Overnight in Saint-Girons.

Day 2: Saint-Girons - Saint-Girons (various loops ranging from 60 to 160 km; 40 to 100 miles)
Our first loop will take us through two villages--small in size, but big in reputation as they’ve given their names to the region’s most famous cheeses (Moulis and Bethmale)--before heading towards the 17-km Col de la Core (1,395 m).  The way back can be done following the scenic Gorges de Ribaouto, but we strongly recommend the tougher option that will take you on very narrow roads through a picturesque landscape over Col de Catchaudegue (893 m).  This route is magnificent and is virtually traffic-free except for some wandering tame cows!  For dinner, Saint-Girons has a wide variety of places ranging from pizzeria to restaurants serving local specialties.

Day 3:  Loop Col de la Crouzette (1,241 m), Col de Portel (1,432 m), Col de Péguère (1,375 m) with longer option over Col d’Agnes (1,570 m) – 68 km or 100 km
You’ll again travel on narrow roads to Col de la Crouzette (1,241 m).  From there, Col de Portel (1,432 m) and Col de Péguère (1,375 m) are only a few pedal strokes’ away.  After a fun break-neck downhill, you’ll be in Massat, an ideal place for lunch or picnic.  This is also where the group can decide whether they will return directly to Saint-Girons following a flat river road, or tackle the climb of Col d’Agnès (1,570 m) before a lovely and exciting downhill into the town of Aulus-les-Bains before riding on to Saint-Girons.

Day 4:  Saint-Girons to Bagnères-de-Luchon via Col de Portet d’Aspet (1,069 m) and Col de Menté (1,349 m) with longer option via Col du Portillon (1,293 m) – 75 km or 95 km
Out of Saint-Girons, you’ll follow a route that has been done times and times again by Tour de France riders.   The easy Portet d’Aspet (1,069 m) will be a warm up before “plunging down” to the bottom of the more difficult Col de Menté (1,349 m).  Note that this steep downhill was the theater of the unfortunate deadly crash of Fabio Cassartelli in the 1995 Tour de France (the spot has been marked with a monument).  The top of Col de Menté is an ideal spot for a picnic.   This is where the group should choose between the shorter option straight to Bagnères-de-Luchon or head south—carefully as traffic can be heavy at times--to Spain and return to France via Col du Portillon (1,293 m) to Luchon where we’ll overnight.

Day 5:  Loop Port de Balès (1,755 m) – 65 km - Departure
Today’s loop will take you over Port de Balès (1,755 m), the « new climb » of the 2007 Tour (Port de Balès was not paved until last year).  Unlike the pros, your climb won’t be governed by a clock but by personal whims like photo opportunities, which are many.  The way down is an exhilarating downhill through the untouched landscape of the Oueil Valley!  You’ll arrive in Bagnères-de-Luchon with enough time to wander through its lively streets before being transferred back to Toulouse
