Itinerary

D1Arrival in Souillac

Located on the Dordogne RiverSouillac has often been considered as the gateway to "Périgord Noir." It is the perfect starting point for a short escape and also conveniently located whether you travel by train (train service from Paris or from Toulouse) or by car (on the A20/E9 highway). Upon arrival, you will be welcomed by our local expert.

Please note that market day is on Friday, so you may wish to arrange an early arrival (or arrive late on a Thursday evening) if you’d like to peruse the stalls.

D2Souillac — Sarlat 35 km/22 miles

You’ll probably want to take a stroll and explore Souillac before getting on your bike, so we’ve kept today’s mileage low to allow you to do just that! From Souillac, the Dordogne will be your guide. This very relaxing ride will take you by the castles of Fenelon and Montfort before reaching Sarlat, the capital city of the Périgord Noir and Europe’s largest preserved medieval center. Cyrano de Bergerac and Manon des Sources took advantage of Sarlat’s medieval authenticity for a film location.

Please note that if you wish to cover more ground, our representative will gladly provide you with longer options. You should also mark your calendar for a Saturday market visit in Sarlat.

D3Sarlat Loop various options

Regardless of the loop you choose, you will follow quiet roads through some of Dordogne’s most beautiful sites. All our loops go through the remarkable villages of DommeBeynac and La Roque-Gageac, three villages deemed so beautiful that they’ve been awarded the coveted title of “Un des Plus Beaux Villages de France (“One of France’s Prettiest Villages”).

At the end, you’ll be back in Sarlat, where you can do whatever you please.

D4Departure from Sarlat

After breakfast, we'll transfer you to the Souillac train station (or to your first hotel where you left your car).
