From Mountain to Sea, this itinerary takes you from the beautiful Dolomites, Mother Nature’s amazing creation to Venice, one of the world’s craziest man-made architectural achievements!  In between, nature and men have created wonders that just don’t stop…giving you no choice but to stop and shoot and marvel at!

Although the itinerary starts from a mountain-town, the route is fairly easy and can be done by active people who exercise regularly. The trip is mainly made up of backroads with little traffic or on paved bicycle paths, including the Lunga via delle Dolomiti.

Itinerary:

Sunday:  Arrive in Bolzano-Bozen
Bolzano-Bozen is a bilingual town with a unique cultural and linguistic blend, as well as a distinct Tyrolean atmosphere! Conveniently located on the train line that links Verona to Munich, Bolzano is easy to reach from all major gateways, including Milan and Venice, as well as from secondary airports serviced by low-cost airlines.

Monday:  Bolzano – Brunico-Bruneck – Dobbiaco-Toblach – 30 km (19 miles)
In the morning a private transfer brings you to the “pearl of Pusteria Valley”. We’ve kept today’s ride mileage to a minimum as it takes place on a slightly uphill bicycle path along the Rienz River. This path will take you through the region’s beautiful rural countryside before reaching Dobbiaco-Tobach, a very beautiful mountain town, just a short ride from the Austrian border.

Tuesday:  Dobbiaco-Toblach – Cortina d’Ampezzo – 35 km (22 miles)
Leaving Dobbiaco-Toblach behind and cycling along the river Landro bike path, you’ll pass by the unusual rock formations known as the Three Peaks of Lavaredo. Gravity will then take you south to Cortina d’Ampezzo, the “Pearl of the Dolomites”, where you will overnight.

Wednesday:  Cortina d’Ampezzo – Belluno – 45 km (28 miles)
You’ll ride from Cortina d’Ampezzo along an old railway to the town of Calalzo where you’ll board a train to Belluno, your final destination of the day. Although Belluno may lack man-made sites of remarkable importance, nature has more than made up for it!  Set against a mountain backdrop, this beautiful town exudes well-being.

Thursday:  Belluno – Valdobbiadene – 50 km (31 miles)
The scenery changes dramatically as you leave Belluno behind and ride through Tuscan-style countryside. Further on, you’ll be cycling in the vineyards that produce the famous sparkling wine, Prosecco, and then reach Valdobbiadene, a major Prosecco wine-making center. If you choose to dine “authentic,” you should not miss “Lo Spiedo”, accompanied by a local Prosecco. Squisito!

Friday:  Valdobbiadene – Treviso – 58 km (36 miles)
Heading south from Valdobbiadene, you’ll cross the Piave River and enter the Po Valley. Your destination is Treviso, a town at the confluence of the Sile and Botteniga rivers.
Too often overlooked, lying in the shadows of neighboring Venice, Padua (Padova) and Vicenza, Treviso is a wonderful town to explore. Wander around its streets, piazzas, gardens, and villas before a well-deserved dinner at a local restaurant to sample the regional dishes.

Saturday:  Treviso – Mestre – 38 km (24 miles)
The Sile River will lead you all the way to Casale. You then head southward to Mestre, your final destination. Your hotel there is located across from a bus stop and a short ride from the train station, both of which offer frequent service to Venice – just a few minutes’ ride away. An early arrival will allow plenty of time in Venice for an afternoon of walking along canals, over bridges, across piazzas, and into palaces, before having dinner at a local restaurant in one of the world’s most desirable places! Venice is wonderful exclamation point to conclude a week-long extraordinary vacation!

Sunday:  Departure
After breakfast, depart Mestre at the time of your choice. Note that we can arrange post-tour stays in Venice, if desired, in order to soak up more of its dreamy canal magic!
