 L' ETAPE DU TOUR 2004 TRAVEL PACKAGE FULFILLS CYCLISTS 'TOUR' DREAMS

Now cyclists can realize their dream of riding in the Tour de France. Cyclomundo, the bicycle rider's travel agency, is offering a new vacation package for riders to participate in L' Etape du Tour, one of the world's most prestigious cyclosportives.

A mass timed cycling event, L' Etape du Tour allows thousands of cyclists to ride an actual stage of the Tour de France. Since 1993, the ASO, the Tour de France's parent company, has sponsored Etape to give riders of all skill levels the opportunity to prove themselves on one of the current year's toughest stages.

This year, cyclists will compete on a150-mile hilly course on July 11. The stage starts at Limoges and ends at Saint Flour through the magnificent mountain peaks of Auvergne. After they complete the cyclosportive, participants can enjoy the scenic French countryside for two days, and then watch the pro riders on the Tour de France race the same stage July 14.

"The Tour de France is an exciting event to watch on TV, and seeing it live is exhilarating, but there's nothing like finishing the Etape and watching it done by the pros two days later," said Corey Pendleton, past Etape rider and Cyclomundo client. "It really gives you a real appreciation for what those guys do."

The distance and profile of this year's Etape make it very challenging: four climbs on the 150-mile stage. However, food stations well spaced throughout the course will offer a welcome relief to tired and hungry riders. Riders who finish the Etape get a t-shirt and a medal, and prizes are awarded to top finishers.
