A guided city tour by bike of Cordoba will introduce you to this remarkable historic town's stunning Mezquita, ancient Jewish quarter, and charming patios. From Córdoba, you'll cycle through Fernán Núñez toward Jaén, with so much to experience along the way!

Discover the dramatic landscapes of the Subbética Nature Reserve, the flower-filled white streets of Priego de Córdoba, and the stunning hilltop town of Zuheros perched on limestone cliffs. The tour concludes along the scenic Vía Verde del Aceite, featuring impressive viaducts and olive groves stretching to the horizon, before reaching Jaén where you'll stay in a luxurious Parador with panoramic views of the Sierra mountains.

Itinerary

D1Arrival in Cordoba

Arrive in Córdoba at your leisure. Depending on your arrival time, take a leisurely stroll through through the Judería, Córdoba's historic Jewish Quarter, or wander toward the Roman Bridge for a first, unforgettable view of Córdoba’s timeless skyline and the gentle flow of the Guadalquivir river —an ideal introduction to the city’s rich heritage, which you'll discover in-depth tomorrow on your guided cycling tour of the city.

D2 Exploring Córdoba. Guided city tour by bike

You’ll meet your local guide and begin an immersive cycling tour through the heart of Córdoba. As you ride, you’ll wind through the narrow lanes of the Jewish Quarter, surrounded by whitewashed walls, hidden courtyards, and centuries of history. The journey continues to the magnificent Mezquita-Cathedral, where striking arches and layered architectural influences tell the story of the city’s evolving identity. Along the way, your guide will share engaging stories and local insights that bring Córdoba’s vibrant past vividly to life.

D3Transfer to Fernán Núñez; then ride Fernán Núñez to Lucena 51km (32mi), 650 meters (2,133ft) climbing

You’ll be transferred from Córdoba to Fernán Núñez, which is a 30-minute drive. This is where you'll be given your bikes for your ride to Lucena.  Don't leave Fernán Núñez before you explore its historic quarter, home to the Palacio Ducal - a beautifully preserved 19th century neoclassical palace.  Your route will take you through farmland that produces the exceptional D.O.P. Aceite de Lucena. Known as the Sephardic Pearl, Lucena is rich in historical treasures - from the fascinating 10th century Jewish necropolis to the majestic castle of El Moral and the stunning palace of the Counts of Santa Ana. Relax in the main square with delicious tapas and a refreshing drink.

D4Lucena to Priego de Córdoba 53km (33mi), 680m (2,231ft) of climbing

Today's journey will take you away from it all! Cycle along the charming railway line through the Subbética Nature Reserve.  Keep an eye out for mountain goats!

Your route takes you to Zuheros - a magnificent hilltop town that you'll explore tomorrow.  Your final destination is the flower-filled Priego de Córdoba, home to a fascinating Historical Museum. Be sure to explore the medieval and Moorish villa district.

D5Priego de Córdoba to Zuheros 49km (30mi), 680m (2,231ft) of climbing

The remoteness of this route is part of its charm. A highlight is Luque, one of the oldest towns in the Subbética region, crowned by the strategically located "El Venceire".

Your destination, Zuheros - which you glimpsed on day 3 - has been recognised by the Association of the Most Beautiful Villages in Spain. Its limited accessibility (the best way to reach this village is by bike) has preserved its peaceful, unique character, making it wonderfully authentic.

If you stay an extra night, visit the Cueva de los Murciélagos (Bat Cave), with cave paintings from the Neolithic (6000-3000 BC) and Bronze Age (3000-2000 BC). Alternatively, hike through the beautiful Bailón Canyon (4km) in the Sierras Subbéticas Natural Park.

D6Zuheros to Jaén 50km (31mi), 500m (1,640ft) of climbing

On this last day of cycling, say goodbye to Zuheros as you follow the Vía Verde del Aceite. This former railway line takes you over impressive viaducts with sweeping views. Enjoy the solitude until you reach the village of Marcos, where you can have a relaxing lunch before transferring to Jaén. Your adventure ends in a luxurious Parador with spectacular panoramic views of the Sierra mountains - a perfect finale to this remarkable journey.

D7Depart Jaén

Leave your exceptional location at a time of your choosing. Remember that Granada is only an hour away from Jaen by train.  If time allows, don't miss this extraordinary city.
