More infos BOOK NOW !Mont Blanc 's snowy crown at your back, the blue sweep of Lake Geneva ahead—this short, satisfying escape traces the Arve Valley from Chamonix's alpine amphitheater to the cosmopolitan waterfront of Geneva. It's ideal if you love big scenery without big passes: expect mostly gentle grades, bike-friendly links between classic Savoyard towns, and plenty of time for cafés, bakeries, and photo stops.
Roll past glaciers' handiwork, riverside poplars, and fruit-orchard flats; watch the architecture shift from chalet timber to lakefront Belle Époque. Along the way, you'll sample Savoie and Léman flavors—tomme and tarte myrtille in the mountains, perch and chocolate on the lake—while riding quiet lanes and greenway stretches that keep the traffic at arm's length.
Cap it all with a triumphant spin into Geneva, a stroll by the Jet d’Eau. Take your time; gravity and the river do much of the work!
Once in Geneva, why not extend your trip by riding a few more days and do another tour such as our 3-Lake tour from Geneva to Annecy or our Geneva to Lyon following the ViaRhôna bikeway?
Settle into your hotel in Chamonix (reachable by local bus from the Chamonix SNCF station). Pre-set bikes are delivered prior to arrival, so you can fit, fine-tune, and wander. Stretch your legs along the Arve promenade, ride the Aiguille du Midi cable car for eye-popping views, or simply sip an espresso on a sunny terrace while glaciers glow above town.
Follow the Arve downstream through Les Houches and Servoz, with big-screen views of the Fiz range and Mont Blanc’s flanks. The valley opens near Passy/Sallanches, then eases toward Cluses and the foothills of the Chablais. If you’re feeling hot, why not stop for a quick dip in Passy Accro Lake or make a stop at France’s third-highest waterfall (270 metres) - Cascade de l'Arpenaz.
Expect fast-rolling sections on quiet valley roads and bike paths, with brief undulations around villages and bridges. Overall, it’s a fairly easy ride, so look around at the spectacular scenery around you—a day for steady pedaling, wide horizons, and plenty of snapshots. Day 2 comes to a close as you roll into the pretty town of Thiez.
Bonneville’s riverfront makes a great pause for a morning coffee, just 12 km from Thiez. You’re in charge of your timetable, so take your time and enjoy a café au lait on the banks of the river Arve. Continue along the river toward Bonne—then skirt Annemasse on bike-friendly connectors as the scenery shifts from rural Savoy to the Léman basin.
The riding is predominantly flat-to-slightly downhill, with short city approaches handled on marked lanes/paths. Cross into Switzerland (have you ever crossed a border on a bike?) and follow lakeside and urban riverside routes to the heart of Geneva. Roll past parks and elegant façades to finish by the Rhône quays or the Jet d’Eau—mountains behind you, deep-blue lake before you—a job very well done. And since you’ve certainly put in the kilometres, why not have a raclette or fondue in the evening to toast your travels and go full Swiss while you’re in the city?
After breakfast, depart at your leisure—Trains from Genève-Cornavin and flights from GVA make onward travel easy.
or stay on to begin one of our many Geneva-based tours such our 3-Lake tour or our ViaRhôna from Geneva to Lyon.
