Starting in Aix-les-Bains, a beatutiful town nestled on the shores of the stunning Lac du Bourget, this self-guided tour offers the perfect blend of nature and small-town charm. As you pedal away from the lake's tranquil waters, you’ll find yourself immersed in some of the most picturesque landscapes the region has to offer—from the rolling hills and peaceful farmlands to scenic mountain views.

Each day will reveal new sights and experiences. From Dolomieu’s quiet roads to the medieval allure of Pérouges, the journey is a captivating mix of historical richness and natural beauty. You’ll cycle through charming villages where time seems to stand still, with stops that allow you to truly savor the essence of rural France. The distant peaks of the Jura and Alps Mountains will be your backdrop as you explore this serene countryside.

What makes this tour truly special is its flexibility—you set your own pace, making room for both exploration and relaxation. At the end of each day, unwind in hand-picked accommodations and enjoy delicious local cuisine. Itinerary

D1Arrival in Aix (Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday)

Your cycling adventure begins in the serene town of Aix-les-Bains, situated along the shores of Lac du Bourget, France’s largest natural lake. Take a leisurely stroll along the lakeside promenade or enjoy a refreshing boat ride across the tranquil waters to the spectacular Abbaye de Hautecombe.  The stunning views of Mont du Chat towering over the lake will leave you in awe, offering a peaceful start to your journey. In the evening, unwind in the calm atmosphere, preparing yourself for the exciting days of exploration ahead.

D2Aix-les-Bains — Dolomieu (Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday) 59 km/37 miles, 580 m/1,900 ft. of climbing

The 2nd day’s ride takes you away from the lakeside serenity of Aix-les-Bains, as you cycle through lush countryside towards Dolomieu. The route winds through the hills overlooking Lac du Bourget. The views are spectacular! There's no need to climb to the top of the pass to reach the Rhône Valley—the "Tunnel du Chat" cuts across the mountain, sparing you sweat and aching legs.  On the other side, following the Rhône,  you’ll be greeted by the quiet, scenic beauty of rolling hills and far-reaching green landscapes, making for an enjoyable and relaxed ride. The last section is done on quiet countryside roads.  End your day in Dolomieu, where you can unwind and immerse yourself in the area's tranquility.

D3Dolomieu — Pérouges (Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday) 65 km/40 miles, 300 m/985 ft. of climbing

On the 3rd day, set out from Dolomieu and enjoy a delightful ride along water and through the countryside as you make your way to Pérouges, a beautifully preserved medieval town perched on a hilltop. You will join the ViaRhona in Morestel, an ideal location for a first stop.   It if comes too soon for you, a few kilometers further is the “Vallée Bleue” water park, an ideal spot for a coffee, a lunch, or a swim! 

When you arrive in Pérouges, explore its cobblestone streets and centuries-old architecture. Be sure to sample the famous galette de Pérouges, a delightful treat to end the day.

D4 Pérouges — Lyon (Thursday, Friday, or Saturday) 43 km/27 miles, 190 m/625 ft. of climbing

On the 4th day, you’ll leave the charm of Pérouges and head towards the vibrant city of Lyon. The ride begins with rural roads, and through the “Grand Parc de Miribel- Jonage” offering peaceful scenery, before transitioning into the outskirts of Lyon. As you approach the city, the sight of the Rhône and Saône rivers will welcome you. Known for its incredible culinary scene, Lyon invites you to explore its streets, visit landmarks like the Basilica of Notre-Dame de Fourvière, and indulge in the city’s world-famous cuisine—a perfect mix of nature and city life.

D5Explore Lyon and departure (Friday, Saturday, Sunday)

Before leaving, we invite you to explore the vibrant city of Lyon.  Whether you prefer to wander through the historic Old Town, visit art galleries and museums, or relax along the riverbanks, Lyon offers a range of cultural experiences.

  • 4 nights in 3-, 4- and 5-star hotels

  • 1,035 euros per person in April and October. Single supplement is 425 euros
  • 1,070 euros per person in May, June and September. Single supplement is 445 euros
  • 1,115 euros per person in July and August. Single supplement is 460 euros

These prices do not include:

  • Expenses of a personal nature
  • Travel insurance
  • Bicycle rentals. Hybrid bikes are available at the rate of 115 euros per bike. Gravel bikes are available at the rate of 145 euros per bike. Electric bikes are available at the rate of 215 euros per bike. This price includes the drop-off fee for the bike’s return to Geneva.
